SFLW Carnivals

  • Girls Carnival 2019 FHFC

Last Sunday our Open Women, Under 14’s and Under 16’s Girls teams participated in their first games for the season during the SFL Carnival.

A warm day for footy but all of our teams did really well with 7 out of 9 games won across the day. Thanks to all of the families and supporters that helped out on the day in various roles from goal umpiring, running water, time keeping, team managing and coaching.

What a great first hit out we had at the U14’s carnival. The hard work the players put in throughout the preseason has paid off coming away winning three out of three games. Though we only have a handful of players with previous football playing experience the girls gelled really well together. We just need to work on hearing some voices out there on the field (I know they can talk, they sure do at training!) Thanks to all the parents, grandparents, siblings and other family members who came along to support the girls. Thanks also to the volunteer water boys and goal umpires, thanks to Team Manager Narelle Hodgson, Luke Beenham for running for us and huge thanks to Deb Osmond for your ongoing support.

Finally! The carnival had arrived on Sunday down at Hackham. The girls were super excited and begun the day with a great performance, defeating Port Noarlunga in their first game. A slow start in the second game against Reynella proved the difference as we lost by 2 points in a strongly contested match. We then played Morphett Vale in our last game of the day. The team consistently kicked goals off the back of strong defensive pressure and hard work to run out winners by 6 goals. We take lots of positives from the day and look to continue to build towards our first round match in a fortnight’s time. We had two players play their first matches for FHFC and showed that they will be great players for us this season. We also had outstanding support from parents, siblings and friends throughout the day, who ran water, time kept and goal umpired we really appreciate your support and I know the girls really liked the water runners as it was hot! We hope to recruit a few more players to add to our already promising squad. Girls interested please contact Deb Osmond. We are very excited for the season ahead!

Open Women
Coach: Pete Cavouras
Our Open Women played down at Aldinga winning their first 2 matches against Hackham and Reynella and unfortunately were 2 goals down in the last match when the last game was called off due to player injury.
