Coaches Wrap – Round 2

A Grade Women

FH 7.15.57 Def Ald 0.0.0

The Senior Women’s Rnd 2 game against Aldinga at Aldinga was far more rewarding than our first game loss!!
My pre-game speech to the players was to focus on ‘TEAMS – The Theme’ for the whole game. The players certainly did focus on that and played the whole game as a ‘team’.
From the first throw-up, we controlled the mid-field and gave our forwards many scoring opportunities.
Every players’ input into the game was terrific and all lines were very disciplined in holding our team structures!!  The backline were so miserly, they denied Aldinga from even scoring!!
Although we scored 7.15  57, we did hit the goalpost 3 times and one touched on the line.
The team was well lead by experienced  players in Alana Baker, Emily Brockhurst and Chloe Meyers and our new players are settling into the team with ease. A special congratulations and thank you to our U17 players in Brooke Kleinig, Brooke Watson and Ebony Scanlan, who also played great and were very much part of the team!!
Keep up the hard work and success will continue!!

C Grade

FH 18.9.117 Def Reynella 1.4.10

C Grade had another great win on the weekend, beating Reynella 18.9 to 1.4.
We ran hard, hunted the ball in numbers and capitalized on our first touch through the midfield with our pace.  The whole 21 all played really well and should be proud of the result they produced.
After Blake playing his first senior game last week, kicking another 5 goals against Reynella this week,  we had Adam (AJ) Bunworth play his first senior game for the club against Reynella this week. Playing an awesome game.
Congratulations to both.
We also had two new players to the club have a kick in Tyler and Nick and welcomed back some of our more experienced players.
It’s been a very good start to the season and hope to continue this weekend against Happy Valley at Flaggy Oval.
Cheers Stoney

Round 2 saw us travel down to Morphett Vale to take on the Emus. Always playing a contested style we knew we were going to need to be strong at the contest. Starting well we kicked the first 2 goals before they got their first. We extended the lead in the second, which was our best quarter of the day, kicking 4 goals. The second half was not one for the highlight reel with only 1 goal being scored by both teams but no matter we ran out winners 7.5 47 to 1.2 8. Due to opposition’s low numbers we had to heavily rotate throughout the game which made consistency difficult. The girls must be commended for embracing this and sticking to the task at hand.
Our Captain Jaela Manning was outstanding all over the ground, Gabby Baker played excellent through the midfield and off halfback and Mel Anderson continued her good form, with plenty of the ball up forward and through the midfield. We now go back and play Cove/Reynella next week which will be another great contest.

U16 Boys

FH 13.17.95 Def Mar 9.7.61

After falling short in our first hitout, we looked to square the ledger with our first game at home.
We faced Marion in a trial game just three weeks ago and had a fair idea of what they may bring to the table. We were fortunate enough to get a quick start and set the tone for the day although we did slip with our intencity for periods in the game which will be a focus area going forward as well as our scoring accuracy.
Plenty of highlights with Nathan Frost having a four bounce run from defensive 50 and finishing with a shot at goal, Bailey Richman grew a leg and was moving around the ground nicely and Cam Nuske’s and Ben Jeffries bumps set a precedence. We had solid contributers all over the ground and again with help from five U15s coming up into the team with Zac Mayr being awarded Best player for the Falcons.
A big shout out to Jack and Mitch Chaplin who played their first games for the Falcons last week with Hassan Mahfoud playing his first game last Sunday.
We are back at home again this week to face Modbury which is a solid challenge.
Cheers,
Bunga

U14 Girls
FH 7.10.52 Def C/MV 1.0.6

Sunday we took on the Emus at Morphett Vale in search of our first win.  The girls had really prepared well for this game with an excellent week on the track and were full of confidence even though they had a tough first round. We got off to a fast start, posting 3 unanswered goals in the first quarter, and grew our lead each quarter from there.

The final score was Flaggys 7.10-52 to Emus 1.0 -6.

Best players were Sophie Vowles who continues to impress with her courage and high marking.  Alyssa Marlow, another first year player whose run and carry is very damaging and Peyton Brookes played her best game for her career. She not only rebounded out of defence, but kicked her first goal and had a stint through the middle. It was hard to pick out best players this week with the team being shuffled around to try out different positions, but a few other players that need a mention are, Claire Bryant, Emma Jeffries and Taiya Renfrey who played their best football so far.

Goals were kicked by Kyah Smith with 2, Kyahlia Read, Georgia Roberts, Alyssa Marlow, Tegan Siekman and Peyton Brookes.

Looking forward to our next challenge at Christies Beach on Sunday.  Happy Mothers Day to all the Mums
